Save Mr Tuffney!

Lowther Appiness club has published its first app on to the Android app store - Save Mr Tuffney!

Swipe Mr Tuffney away from the creatures that are trying to catch him, can you guide them on to the rocks where they will get stuck? Watch him bounce off the wall, jiggle the phone, try a different level, have fun! Lowther clubs are supported by the PTA, press the PTA button to make a donation. The app can be found by searching for Lowther on the Android App store.

It was created using MIT App Inventor, it can be used from here:
http://ai2.appinventor.mit.edu/
Please note that this will not work with Internet Explorer or Safari, works fine with Chrome and other browsers.

This builds apps for Android devices - running relatively recent versions of Android. If you do not have one of these you can run an emulator on the PC, which can be downloaded from here:
http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/ai2/setup-emulator.html#step2

The project that was used to create this can be downloaded from here. Please note, this is exactly the project produced by the club. It was built to try out different aspects of building the app, not as a model app.

We aim to improve the app over time, so watch this space. If you have any comments please talk to any members of the app club, or Mr Agarwal, d.agarwal@lowther.richmond.sch.uk.

To download the SaveMrTuffney.aia file please click here.

The handwriting app installed on the schools iPad can be found by searching Lowther on either Apple or Android app stores. Called Magic Handwriting it is free to download, but if you like it please consider making a donation to the PTA by pressing the G button.

ICT Club
  Welcome to ICT Club

Lowther ICT Club has children attending from years 3 and 4.

3D Printer

The 3D modelling and printing club continues to learn about the capabilities of our 3D printer.

The picture shows the model of a Pangolin. It has been separated into its component parts and the printer has provided the scaffolding where we didn't lie the part flat on the print bed.

Lucas easily removed the scaffolding and has taken the pieces home to assemble.

Want to write your own apps? We do! We use App Inventor from MIT, It can be used from here:
http://ai2.appinventor.mit.edu/
(Please note that this will not work with Internet Explorer or Safari, works fine with Chrome and other browsers).

This builds apps for Android devices - running relatively recent versions of Android. If you do not have one of these you can run an emulator on the PC, which can be downloaded from here:
http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/ai2/setup-emulator.html#step2

If you would like to learn how it works, the tutorials are pretty good. We would recommend starting from the first one here:
http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/beginner-tutorials-short.html

We have been looking at 3D modelling, and have even had some models printed on a 3D printer! The software we use is called Sculptris, and can be accessed here:
http://pixologic.com/sculptris/

We have also been writing games using Scratch, also from MIT. It can be used on-line from here:

Play Magnus...

The reigning world chess champion is Magnus Carlsen. There is an app based on him - Play Magnus - that allows you to play him at various different ages - age 5 is pretty playable, and gets progressively harder as you play him at older ages. It is free to download and we have used it in chess club.

Should you download it we do urge you to be aware of e-safety as with all on-line activity - it does have in-app purchases. It is available on most platforms.

Richmond Park Academy Chess Tournament

Our brilliant chess club represented the school at the RPA Chess Tournament.

For the first time we took 2 teams, who were among over 100 children taking part.

We are all so proud at the way they represented the school.

East Sheen Primary Match

Here are some photos of the children in a recent match we played against East Sheen Primary School.

It was thoroughly enjoyed by all, and was the first time most of the children had played against the clock!
